The Counselor In Training (CIT) program, for young leaders between the ages of 13 and 14, is a two week intensive course in coaching methodology. Guided by our trained coaching staff, CIT's will learn about various learning styles and will explore ways to tailor instruction to the individual needs of each camper. Through a collaborative process consisting of hands on experience and peer review, CIT's will gain valuable leadership and interpersonal skills that will transfer to other areas of their lives.

A CIT is someone who loves working with kids and is interested in becoming more confident, more dependable and more assertive. Some CITs aspire to be youth sport or camp coaches in the future, others desire to gain leadership skills to be a more effective athlete or student. Training consists of an introduction to coaching methodology and motor skill development. CITs will explore their own coaching and learning styles through a system of guided practice and peer review.

Interacting with campers and representing Arena Sports requires a high level of maturity. For this reason, the CIT program is very selective. Interested teens must be 13-14 years of age (13 yrs by Aug. 20) and complete the following application to be considered. Only a selected number of applicants will be chosen, and applicants will be notified if they have been accepted into the program. The cost of the CIT program is $100 per week. All selected participants are eligible to attend up to 2 weeks, with the possibility for added weeks based on previous performance and availability. There are 3-5 CIT positions available each week of camp.

"Guthrie had a great time as a counselor in training. He came home with lots of stories about the kids and all the things we was learning.  He quizzed me and my husband on our leadership styles (we are both teachers).  It was awesome!  He truly loved working with your staff and the kids.  He was so proud to have a real job.  Thank you so much for giving him the chance to try this out."
-Alice Baggett (Guthrie's mom)

"Thanks for letting me try coaching at your camp.  It was a great experience and I think I learned a lot from it.  My favorite thing was leading avalanche with the little kids because they were so cute.  I would love to do it again!"
