__________________________________________________________

We've just said it, but it's worth repeating:
Indoor soccer is in jeopardy at Magnuson Park.

ACT NOW! Please email the Mayor and City Council today to help save indoor soccer: This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it  (this one email goes to all of them!)

They need to know you want to keep all the things you love most about indoor soccer: fun, friendships, exercise, healthy lifestyles, a safe place for your family to play, and more!

Here's what we envision:

- Improved building safety with sprinklers, seismeic upgrades and extra exits

- Bathrooms

- Heat

- New field turf (the cool kind like the Seahawks and visiting national soccer teams play on)

- More field space

- Fitness center

More field space; more sports; better atmosphere
The new facility will have two indoor soccer arenas with the best infill turf available on the market, as well as a 22,500 square foot open training field with two outdoor sized goal areas, a baseball infield and outfield (225 ft. to center field), a hard-court surface for basketball and volleyball, and a 20,000 square foot fitness center with programs for the whole family. We will also have food service and a pro shop, full service locker rooms and restrooms. Our improvements will respect the building’s historical legacy, while ensuring a safe, code- compliant space through the addition of sprinklers and seismic upgrades as well as extra exits and restrooms. We expect to expand the programming we offer our customers, included expanding our summer and day camp options.

Arena Sports Proposed Floor Plan

MAGNUSON PARK UPDATE

Arena Sports is still enthusiastically working to create a better place to play at Magnuson Park!

Our leadership team is working with the Mayor’s office and Councilmembers to finalize our proposal to renovate Hangar 27.  This has been a slow and frustrating process for all of us.  We want you to know we’re working very hard to craft a proposal that city leaders support.

You may hear about some movement on the proposals of other organizations within Magnuson Park. The Seattle City Council will be reviewing these proposals during the next several weeks.  We wish our fellow Magnuson Park organizations every success. Because our proposal is substantial both in terms of scope and funding, the agreement has been more complicated. And, as you know, all uses of Magnuson Park fall under considerable scrutiny.

Our $6 million renovation plan for Hangar 27 will create a fantastic place to play with more space for soccer, baseball, basketball, volleyball and batting cages!  If you have not seen the drawings and read the details, click here and take a look.

Because our proposal is privately funded there will be no city tax dollars taken away from other citywide priorities, such as improvement, maintenance, and operation of existing Parks Department facilities and programs.

Thank you for the letters of support you have sent to the City Council!   Please keep it up!   We will succeed if City Council continues to hear from the thousands who appreciate and support our recreation programs.

Please continue to email the Mayor and City Council to tell them to save indoor soccer at Magnuson: This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it  (this one email goes to all of them!)

They need to know you want to keep all the things you love most about indoor soccer: fun, friendships, exercise, healthy lifestyles, a safe place for your family to play, and more!

Also, a group of concerned Arena Sports players and parents of players called Seattle Families for Indoor Sports has formed to help save indoor soccer in Magnuson Park.  Look for their website to go live www.seattlefamilies.org.  Contact them at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

With your continued help, we are confident we will secure a future for indoor soccer at Magnuson Park

FAQs
1. What happens if the City does not support your proposal?
Arena Sports will end its programs at Magnuson Park.

2. Is Arena Sports an appropriate fit for Magnuson Park?
We’re a great complement the programs offered by the Parks Department

  • We’re open, accessible and affordable.
  • We’ve been operating in the park for 9 years and growing each year.
  • We provide greatly needed field space and team programs.
  • We do not create “rush hours” in the park or surrounding neighborhoods, so other park users and neighbors are not impacted by our operations.

3. Could you accommodate special events with your renovation plan?
Absolutely; and we’re eager to work with the Parks Department to facilitate those events that are unable to access the many other venues within the city.

4. Can’t Parks do what you do?
Our child development programs and team management system is nationally recognized. Parks is a great partner, but not a substitute for Arena Sports.

5. What’s wrong with a non-profit or the city renovating and operating Hangar 27?
A city-financed and subsidized special events venue would divert Parks Department funding at a time when the city’s outdoor fields and indoor recreation facilities demand maintenance and capital investment.
In addition, a subsidized special event venue:

  • Would not promote broad public access to the Park.
  • Would require an entrance fee for events.
  • Raises questions about whether it’s the Parks Department’s role to help cover the cost of events for for-profit and not-for-profit groups.
