Xtreme Softball
Rules of the Game
Number of Players
- Up to 9 players on the field, up to 15 batters per team
- Late players will be added to the bottom of the lineup
- 4 women must be in the field for Coed Leagues.
- For each female player missing out of the stipulated 4, during coed play, the opposing team will be awarded 10 runs prior to the start of the game. The penalized team must also sit a male on defense for the entire game. If a second female is missing at game time, an additional 10 runs will be awarded prior to the start of the game and an additional male must sit on defense the entire game.
- Teams must have at least 5 fielders to start the game.
Basic Rules
- 16 legal pitches per inning
-
A legal pitch must hit the mat and be over 5 feet and under 13 feet.
-
An illegal pitch (too high/low or off the mat) is a ball but does not count against the pitches per inning.
-
3 outs do not end the inning or clear the bases.
-
Any struck ball that hits the batter while she/he is still in the batter’s box is ruled a strike.
- There is no foul ball. All hit balls are live. Any ball that leaves the playing area will be deemed a “gound rule double”.
- Fly balls caught off the net are out except:
-
Balls hit in the Home Run Zone are automatic home runs .... the batter and all baserunners may leave the field without touching home.
-
Balls hit in the “Must Throw Zone” and are caught off of the net are “safe hits”. The batter must be thrown out.
Scoring & Pitch Counts
- Points are awarded to Offensive and Defensive Teams as follows:
-
2 points for a run (Offense Scores)
-
1 point for a walk (Offense Scores)
-
1 point for every out (you can have double, triple, even quadruple plays) (Defense Scores)
- The pitch counts starts at 2 balls & 1 strike, therefore (2 Balls is a walk, 2 strikes are an out)
- On the last legal pitch of the inning (16th), an out by the batter or in the field negates any runs for that at bat. There can also only be one out on the last pitch.
- No Bunting
- Sliding is allowed at 1st, 2nd, 3rd base…NEVER slide into home (player will be called out)
- All plays at home are force-outs, runner must go home when they pass the “must go home” red line.
- No throwing bats … thrown bats that hit the wall will result in an automatic out.
